Consumers filed lawsuits against Unilever alleging that certain TRESemmé Keratin Smooth shampoos and conditioners containing the preservative DMDM hydantoin caused hair loss, scalp irritation, and related injuries. The complaints allege Unilever failed to adequately warn consumers about the alleged risks while marketing the products as safe. Unilever denies the allegations, and no class action settlement has been reached.
